Aqualyx can be used to treat small, exercise-resistant, pockets of fat around the chin, chest, abdomen and thighs. It is beneficial for body contouring and skin tightening, but it is not the recommended treatment for weight loss.
The number of Aqualyx treatments required varies depending on the size of the fatty deposit. Typically, 1-3 treatments for smaller areas such as umder the chin, and 2-6 treatments for larger areas such as the thighs.
Immediately after treatment, you may appear red and slightly swollen with some bruising developing in the following 24-48 hours.
Aqualyx works by causing an anti-inflamatory reaction in the fat cells which can result in a fair amount of swelling for approximately 3-5 days. If you have a chin treatment where the swelling may be obvious, you may wish to organise time off work or avoid social engagements for 72 hours (3 days).
Dr Kathryn advises avoiding strenuous physical exercise for up to a week post treatment, depending upon which areas are being treated (for example if thighs or love handles are treated, avoid running /cycling).
You can reduce the swelling by using a cool pack for 20 minute intervals every day. Please avoid taking anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen) tablets as these can work against the treatment. The area can feel tender up to 4 weeks post injection.

An extremely fine needle is inserted to inject the aqualyx. It is not very painful. The area will feel hot soon afterwards so loose clothing around the area of treatment is recommended.
